SpaceReg supports and recommends the thunderbird email client, this is an open source, multi platform application developed and maintained by the mozilla foundation.
This documented was tested on version 1.0.7, however it is recommended that you try the latest version.
Download and install
You may download the thunderbird email client from the mozilla website here. Just click on the Download Now! link. Once downloaded click on the thunderbird setup icon on your desktop to install.
When you run the email client for the first time a wizard will appear and it will ask you to import account settings from other email clients installed on the system please select do not to import anything.
When the new account setup wizard starts, follow the instruction in the new account section below.
Email settings
Please fill in your email address to view your email settings:
Email is standardised and so these settings can be used on any standards compliant mail user agent (MUA) or email browser. Please note that SMTP requires authentication (PLAIN, DIGEST-MD5 or CRAM-MD5) but not TLS or SSL.
Important: Some bad networks filter the standard SMTP port (25), so our SMTP servers also run on port 1025.
Adding a new account
The Account Wizard will start automatically the first time you run thunderbird or you can start it from the File menu under New and then Account. The follow the instructions below:
- On the New Account Setup page, select Email account, click on next.
- On the Identity page, fill in your name and email address, click on next.
- On the Server Information page, select POP or IMAP and enter the incoming server and outgoing server, click on next.
- On the User Names page, enter your user name, click on next.
- On the Account Name page, you may use anything as your Account Name, but it is suggested you use your email address, click on next.
- Thats it!
